The BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2023 competition is set to take place from Saturday, 10 June to Sunday, 18 June at St David’s Hall and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Marking its 40th anniversary, the competition brings together 16 talented singers from nearly 500 applicants who have successfully navigated three audition selection stages. All events will be broadcast on the BBC.

The Main Prize will see all 16 contestants perform alongside the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Ryan Bancroft, and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, conducted by Michael Christie. Their performances will be broadcast across the BBC platforms, reaching audiences within the UK and globally. Five finalists will be chosen for the ultimate face-off in Cardiff, where the winner will receive the Cardiff Trophy and £20,000.

The Song Prize, an optional event for the contestants, allows them to perform alongside internationally acclaimed pianists Llŷr Williams and Simon Lepper. The rounds are conducted at the Dora Stoutzker Hall of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, with the final taking place at St David’s Hall. The winner will receive the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize Trophy and £10,000.

The Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Audience Prize will be awarded to one of the 16 contestants, chosen by audience votes and presented during the final. The winner will receive £2,500 and a crystal trophy.

Song Prize Round 4
The fourth round of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize features three singers performing some of the most beautiful Lieder, chanson and art song in the repertoire accompanied by internationally renowned pianists Llŷr Williams and Simon Lepper, both celebrating 20 years of involvement with the competition. At the end of this recital the five singers for Thursday's Final in St David's Hall will be chosen.
