Dublin City Council has announced the Dublin City Council Luke Kelly Festival, set to occur on August 13th at Smithfield Square, Dublin 1.

The festival, running from 12pm to 6pm, will pay tribute to Dublin music icon Luke Kelly via a combination of live music, discussion sessions, and family-friendly arts & crafts.

The festival will feature live music performances from Damien Dempsey and former Dubliners member Sean Cannon. Guest appearances from celebrated singers and musicians are also expected throughout the day.

In the discussion tent, attendees can participate in conversations about Luke Kelly's life and passions. Special guest Martin Carthy will discuss the UK folk scene in the early 60's, a period when Luke Kelly worked with Ewan MacColl before joining The Dubliners. Biographer Des Geraghty will also speak about Luke Kelly's life and legacy.

Families are catered for with an array of arts & crafts activities and football activities hosted by the FAI.

The event's programming has been curated by artist MacDara Yeates and author Leagues O’Toole, working in collaboration with Paula McCann, representing the Luke Kelly family.
