Music in Monkstown Sunday evening concert
The celebrated Piatti Quartet close our festival this year with a beautiful programme dominated by the resonances of Dvorak in America. The centrepiece is the wonderful American Quartet which he wrote there in the happy summer of 1893 as he holidayed with his wife and children. It is imbued with the influence of the music he heard there. This in turn was a great influence on the young african english composer Coleridge Taylor who composed his clarinet quintet 2 years later also full of american folk melody and harmonic language. The Piatti Quartet will be joined for this by John Finucane. The concert opens however with the single movement work -Quartetsatz, by one of chamber music's most revered composers Franz Schubert.
