Kind Of Blue – Orchestrated
This brought the house down in a packed NCH in May 2019 in the first Irish performance. Now, by popular demand, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Guy Barker are bringing it back.
Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue still heads up lists not just as one of the greatest ever jazz albums but one of the most extraordinary recordings of the 20th century. Top jazz trumpeter Guy Barker arranged the album, including orchestrating solos not only by Davis but by John Coltrane and Bill Evans. Who better to perform it than the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, an orchestra that has jazz in its DNA, with Barker himself conducting. This earned a prolonged standing ovation last year and this April there’s another night of amazing jazz on the way when this extraordinary album gets the RTÉ CO treatment.
