Anne Randolph collaborates with Mick Hanly for this performance in The Whale Theatre on 19th April.

Anne Randolph is an accomplished interpreter of Irish, Celtic, American and Canadian folk songs, influenced by such songwriter’s as Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Robbie Burns and others of those eras.This is Anne’s third visit to the Whale Theatre and this time she introduces a snapshot of her revival of the songs of Kate and Anna McGarrigle together with folk songs from her catalogue.

Having taken time out to raise her family and train as a psychotherapist Anne returned to singing in her 50’s and has been developing as a performer ever since. She has been making an impact with her interpretation of songs that may be forgotten, that speak to the heart and deserve to be revisited. Her first solo album ‘If This Be Love’ was released in2019, covering well known folk love songs spanning many decades as well as a number of contemporary songs. Coincidentally the title track ‘If This Be Love’, a most beautiful love song, was graciously given to Anne to record by none other than Mick Hanly who joins her at The Whale on the 19th April.

Mick Hanly is one of Ireland’s most renowned singer/songwriter’s. Inspired by the mid-50’s rock and roll and the Liverpool beat scene in the 60’s, hearing Planxty reignited his love of Irish music and he then set about writing and performing his own take on the genre. Together with Michael O’Domhnaill (ex Skara Brae) he formed Munroe, and supported Planxty on several tours during 72/73, subsequently releasing Celtic Folkweave.

In 1983 he joined Moving Hearts as a vocalist and contributed his own songs to the album Live Hearts. After 14 monthswith Moving Hearts he focused on his solo career which has seen him create many songs recorded by great artists such as Hal Ketchum – his recording of Past the Point of Rescue was a huge hit for him and has been covered by many other’s since then -, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Dolores Keane and many more.

His recent albums Homeland (2019) and Marathon (2022) feature stellar musicians such as The Voice Squad, Donal Lunny, Keith Donald, Eoghain O’Neill and more. Mick’s writing continues to inspire and deliver …..

This return to the Whale Theatre will have solo segments from both artists and will culminate in the duo blending their voices to offer some beautiful renditions of the artists’ favourites to close the evening. They will be accompanied by the very talented Vera Craughwell on keyboard and piano accordion so this promises to be a special evening of songs and stories.
