The BBC Comedy Collective Bursary Scheme for 2024 is offering a unique opportunity for emerging talent in the UK comedy industry. Aimed at developing the next generation of comedy professionals, this scheme provides 10 bursaries to writers, producers, directors, and editors who have shown a commitment to comedy and seek to advance their careers in scripted comedy.

Eligible candidates must have at least one previous credit in their chosen field across any genre or platform, including radio, theatre, podcasts, and more. The scheme is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate a clear commitment to the comedy genre. Each recipient will receive up to £10,000 for shadowing on a BBC Comedy production, a £5,000 development grant, mentorship, and access to BBC Comedy events.

The BBC is committed to diversity and inclusivity, encouraging applications from under-represented groups, including deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals. A minimum of one place is guaranteed for applicants from Scotland, Northern Ireland, and two from Wales, with a special emphasis on Cardiff, the 2023 BBC Comedy Festival city.

Applicants must be over 18, based in the UK, and available to attend the BBC Comedy Festival in Glasgow in May. Submissions require a personal statement, specific materials based on the applicant’s discipline, and adherence to the terms and conditions. The deadline for applications is midnight on Wednesday, 31 January.
