September 17th 2014

The Tower Theatre, 4pm - 5.30pm

Presenters: Philip Coleman, Toner Quinn and Vincent Woods
Chair: Dr Niamh NicGhabhann (Irish World Academy)

This seminar brings together academic and author Philip Coleman, musician, writer and lecturer Toner Quinn and renowned poet and broadcaster Vincent Woods to discuss writing about traditional Irish music across a range of media. Inspired by the creation of the Pearse Hutchinson archive at NUI Maynooth, the seminar explores the poetic legacy of Hutchinson (1927–2012) and his contribution to debate and discourse on Irish music through his work with RTÉ. The seminar will also discuss contemporary opportunities and challenges in writing about traditional Irish music, from the radio broadcast to the blog.
