C.A.M.P. is a new mentoring programme launching in July 2022 from the UK office of composer talent agency First Artist Management (FAM) creating opportunities for young people aged 18-25 to break into the music for screen business with a focus on underrepresented groups. The programme has been created with support from Youth Music’s Incubator Fund, which aims to help increase diversity by creating sustainable and meaningful career opportunities for young music creators.

Who is C.A.M.P for?
C.A.M.P. is open to anyone making music (regardless of any traditional musical background, university degree, connections or support to work for free) who can demonstrate passion, grit and talent for scoring for film and TV. Applicants must be 18-25 years old (at September 1st 2022) and based in England, Scotland or Wales.

What is C.A.M.P.?
The Composer Assistant and Mentor Programme is a two-stage process that starts in September 2022. Upon entry into the programme, mentees will gain knowledge of the industry, build a portfolio and grow their network - providing important steps to a career in composing for media. Applicants are required to submit a written or filmed statement, plus a link to their music (link below), to be assessed by a panel of industry experts. Ten successful applicants, selected based on their passion for music and film, and the originality and talent of their music, will be selected for Stage 1 of the programme.

Stage 1 - Mentoring
Starting on 26th September, mentees will attend 5 x weekly remote mentoring and training sessions, each around a different aspect of the Music for Screen industry. Topics covered will include; “What a career in composing for Film and TV looks like”, “The commissioning process & how to pitch”, “How to market yourself as a composer”, “Creating and recording a score” and then a “1 on 1 mentoring session a with professional composer”. At the end of the 5 week course mentees will pitch on a short film. A panel of industry experts will then select two winning pitches for Stage 2 of the programme.

Stage 2 - Assistant Placement
The two successful mentees will then embark on three-month full time fully paid (living wage) Composer Assistant Placement working alongside a top-tier FAM composer learning the inner workings of scoring on large-scale productions, develop technical skills, while building contacts and gaining important credits. The exact placement will be confirmed at the time, based on location and what projects require assistants. Placements can be done remotely if required.
