Did you know that Choral Singing is good for your mental health? That singing in a choir provides us with the ‘feel good factor’ and makes a positive impact on our general sense of wellbeing?
National Choral Singing Week runs from 5th to 12th October to coincide with World Mental Health Day. It was established in 2008 to promote the positive mental health benefits of choral singing. National Choral Singing Week is a joint initiative of the Association of Irish Choirs (AOIC) and Mental Health Ireland.

This year National Choral Singing Week will be launched with a concert of uplifting music brought to you by numerous choirs. The BIG SING entitled ‘Sing Out Loud, Sing Out Strong’ will be a joyful celebration of singing and its mental health benefits. The concert will feature the Irish Youth Chamber Choir, New Dublin Voices, Fingal Chamber Choir, St Paul’s College Choir, Cantando Chamber Choir, Dublin Airport Singers, Skerries Community Choir, Cór Chairlinne, Ratoath Children’s Choir, The Line-Up, The Soulful and more!

The proven correlation between choral singing and positive mental health makes for a perfect match between the AOIC and Mental Health Ireland. All profits from will go to Mental Health Ireland and AOIC and the event is generously supported by the Helix. General Manager of the Helix Michael Brady said “The Helix is both delighted and proud to support the BIG SING for Mental Health as part of AOIC’s National Choral Singing Week initiative. As a venue which is synonymous for hosting an eclectic range of musical events, The Helix is acutely aware of the positive benefits and well-being which is associated with the art of singing and performing. We extend the warmest of welcomes to both the participants and the patrons and wish the AOIC continued success in their endeavours to support and promote positive mental health in Ireland.”
