The Arts Council, in collaboration with University College Cork (UCC), is inviting applications from traditional artists for the position of ‘Traditional Artist in Residence’ at UCC for the calendar year 2024. This residency, housed in UCC’s Department of Music within the College of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences, aims to offer a selected traditional artist—whether a musician, singer, dancer, storyteller, or practitioner of oral arts—an opportunity to develop their practice within a university setting. Concurrently, it allows music students at UCC to interact with and learn from an established artist.

From January to June 2024, the resident artist will devise a programme to engage with students and staff. From July to December, the artist can focus solely on their personal practice. The artist will receive a fee of €30,000, funded jointly by the Arts Council and UCC, with the latter providing dedicated space and administrative support.

Applications are accepted via email at JTalty [at] ucc.ie (JT) until 5.30 pm on Thursday, 9 November 2023.
