The BSO Young Associates is a nine-month music leader training programme designed specifically for 18-26 year olds who are underrepresented in the arts. This programme aims to offer a career springboard for two talented young individuals, providing them with practical experience, training, and mentoring to develop their skills in music leading. Previous music leading experience is not required, as the programme seeks to identify and nurture potential.

Selected participants will receive a bursary of £10,000, which will be disbursed in monthly payments throughout the duration of the programme.

The time commitment for the BSO Young Associates programme is up to 10 days a month, spanning from September 2023 to June 2024. The programme is designed to accommodate participants’ other commitments and schedules.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is seeking individuals who possess the potential to become exceptional communicators, able to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, and eager to enhance their musical and creative abilities.

Eligible candidates must be musicians, vocalists, music producers, composers, sound artists, MCs, or songwriters of any genre. They should demonstrate a high level of proficiency in playing music and have a willingness to embrace various musical styles while being enthusiastic about acquiring new skills. Additionally, applicants should possess a deep passion for making music with people of all ages, abilities, and needs. Residence in the South or South West of England is also a requirement.

The programme is designed to provide support for individuals who are underrepresented in the arts. It is open to musicians aged 18-26, with consideration given to applicants up to the age of 30.
