Belfast Music Society: Breaking Boundaries with Fionnuala Ward & David Zucchi

Sunday, 5 November 2023, 3.00pm

This exciting programme combines electronics with classical Western instrumentation, including music by Philip Glass, jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea, and saxophonist and composer Jennifer Watson. Come and hear how this virtuosic duo explore the boundary between composer and performer in this one-of-a-kind event.

Fionnuala Ward has performed with EUYO and conductor Vasily Petrenko at the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day in Paris for many world leaders, including President Macron. In the same year, she embarked on a contract with Lincoln Center Stage in New York, being handpicked for a piano quintet for the maiden voyage of the Nieuw Statendam, including a cruise attended by the ship’s Godmother, Oprah Winfrey.

Praised for his “urgently visceral” playing (TEMPO), London-based Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi enjoys a varied career as a performer of classical, contemporary, experimental, and improvised music, collaborating regularly across the UK, Europe, and Canada.
