Bewley’s Café Theatre is pleased to invite applications for Percolate 2, its development programme for playwrights at all career stages. This initiative builds on the theatre’s two-decade commitment to fostering new plays and playwrights in Ireland.

Selected playwrights will receive regular individual meetings for direct feedback, playwriting workshops and masterclasses, engagement with an Artistic Advisory Panel comprising experienced theatre artists, creative production support, and a financial stipend of €1000 for the initial four months.

Open to residents of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the programme seeks to select six playwrights. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality and originality of the proposed work, a sample of dramatic writing (maximum 10 pages), and the artist’s track record. Early-career applicants’ biographical notes will also be considered.

The open call was announced on 2 November 2023, with a closing date for applications set for 12 December 2023. Formal offers will be announced on 1 February 2024.

Bewley’s Café Theatre encourages applications from writers with disabilities and from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, underscoring a commitment to diversity in Irish theatre.

Applications, which will be reviewed by an expert panel, can be submitted via the provided forms. Successful applicants will engage with Bewley’s Café Theatre and the Artistic Advisory Panel for a minimum of two years, with opportunities for industry connections, showcase events, and rehearsed readings, although production is not guaranteed.
