Each year Arts Council England appoint a diverse range of people with knowledge and expertise in arts and culture to write assessments of work by the organisations that are regularly funded.

Applicants are assessed on their individual merits according to the following criteria:
– Knowledge and understanding of an artform/artforms or museums, including familiarity with a range of work and practice and an understanding of the creative process/museum context.
– Ability and willingness to make fair and honest judgments about artistic/museums quality based on sound evidence and an ability to describe and explain those judgments clearly in writing.
– An understanding of the context within which arts and cultural organisations operate
– Offer particular specialisms – for example in work for children and young people, culturally specific arts or disability arts.
