The National Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre and RTÉ lyric fm, presents a public workshop of four new works-in-progress by Composer Lab 2023 participants Geoff Hannan, Daragh Black Hynes, Tom Lane and Amy Rooney. Gavin Maloney conducts. The workshop will be facilitated by composer and Composer Lab mentor David Fennessy.

Composer Lab is a professional development initiative delivered in partnership by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland, in association with RTÉ lyric fm. It aims to provide a creative and open environment for composers wishing to deepen their understanding of writing for the forces of a full symphony orchestra.

The Composer Lab public workshop with the NSO, conductor Gavin Maloney and David Fennessy allows the composers an opportunity to explore compositional ideas and possibilities in the live orchestral setting and to consider direct feedback from the orchestral players and the conductor. It follows on from a one-to-one mentoring session for each composer with David Fennessy and a collaborative workshop with NSO Section Principals earlier this year. Composer Lab 2023 culminates in a public performance of the fully developed works at the National Concert Hall on Tuesday 14 November 2023 at 7.30pm with live broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm.

The public workshop will run from 10am to 3.15pm approx, with a break at 12.45pm for lunch.
