Music in Kilkenny is delighted to support this visit to Kilkenny from the Leipzig University Choir under its director Prof. David Timm who are presenting a concert programme highlighting the works of Max Reger, former Director of Music at Leipzig University who was born 150 years ago in 1873. (No new paragraph here) The programme also features the music of Johann Walter, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who all played a vital role in Leipzig’s musical history. (No new paragraph here) Therefore, (space)Walter’s, Bach’s and Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s music are tightly interwoven with the choir’s musical identity and take on a special role in the choir’s repertoire. The Leipzig University Choir is performing in Kilkenny as part of a tour to Ireland this September which includes performances in Dublin and Limerick.
In its more than 90-year history, the Leipzig University Choir has dedicated itself to ambitious choir literature and contemporary music from the very beginning. In addition to its passionate engagement concerning the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and historical performance practice, the choir has also participated in opera productions and regularly performs large choral symphonic works from the 19th century as well as jazz literature.

There will be a retiring collection to benefit St. Mary’s Cathedral.
