Serious, in partnership with Black Lives in Music, has opened applications for the 19th edition of its Take Five talent development programme, catering to emerging UK-based jazz and improvising musicians from a global majority background. The programme aims to foster career growth through mentorship, collaborations, performance opportunities, and funding.

The scheme includes online seminars, panel discussions, workshops, a 5-day artistic residency for collaboration and performance coaching, and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, it offers a mentorship for an early career music production manager or sound engineer, providing hands-on experience during the residency. The mentee will gain live sound experience, including microphone and backline setup, and using sound mixing desks.

Eligible candidates must have at least a year’s experience in music event management, production, or engineering. Availability is required for online seminars from 25–28 March 2024 and the residency from 8–12 April 2024, with further opportunities throughout the year.

Applications should include basic information, a biography/CV, a personal statement, and a written reference. The deadline for submissions is 5 pm, Thursday 7 December 2023.
