Resonate
PRS Foundation’s Resonate fund has been established with the aim of inspiring professional orchestras to include the finest pieces of British music from the past 25 years in their repertoire. This initiative seeks to promote more performances, recordings, and broadcasts of exceptional contemporary repertoire selected by UK orchestras, while enhancing the approach to programming such music for the benefit of audiences, composers, and musicians in the UK and overseas.
PRS Foundation will provide financial support in the form of grants, with a maximum amount of £10,000, to orchestras committed to exploring contemporary UK repertoire as part of their season or tour, along with long-term audience development programs.
The primary objectives of Resonate are to stimulate more performances, recordings, and broadcasts of exceptional UK repertoire as chosen by UK orchestras, to collaborate with the orchestral sector in enhancing the programming of contemporary repertoire for the benefit of audiences and musicians in the UK and abroad, and to establish a recognised collection of British contemporary works that might not otherwise receive the exposure they deserve without this scheme.
For the Resonate fund, PRS has partnered with the Association of British Orchestras (ABO) in the creation of an extensive database that catalogs pieces commissioned by UK orchestras over the last 25 years. The Resonate database undergoes annual updates through an open submission process. Orchestras are invited to apply to perform works that are not currently listed in the database, provided they can demonstrate that the proposed work meets the program’s criteria.
BBC Radio 3 has joined forces with Resonate as the broadcast partner and will endeavor to air as many Resonate pieces as possible while also raising awareness about this national program. Applicants are encouraged to indicate in their submissions how they plan to incorporate the Resonate piece into their programming discussions with the BBC.
