FREE Workshop with Irish Baroque Orchestra | Finding a Voice 2020

Saturday, 29 February 2020, 2.00pm

Finding a Voice is delighted to announce a workshop with the Irish Baroque Orchestra in partnership with Music Generation Tipperary. The free workshop is aimed at 12-18 year olds, especially traditional players and young people studying music but all are welcome regardless of musical education and experience.

Aidan O’Donnell, Music Development Officer for Music Generation in Tipperary says: “We are really pleased and excited to co-host this event with Finding a Voice. It really is a unique opportunity to meet and get up close to some of Ireland top early music specialists in the Irish Baroque Orchestra and I would encourage young people from all music backgrounds to come and see this. It’s an opportunity not to be missed!”

The Irish Baroque Orchestra is acclaimed as Ireland's flagship period music ensemble and delivers historically informed performances to the highest standards at home and abroad. The IBO's championing of previously unknown high-quality gems from this period reveals music of exceptional quality. Now internationally regarded, IBO is changing the way that we listen to music of the 17th and 18th centuries in Ireland.

Aliye Cornish, CEO of the Irish Baroque Orchestra says: "While International Women's Day is an opportunity to celebrate women in contemporary society, it's also important to look back at the women in history whose talent was restricted or even overlooked by their context. The IBO is delighted to partner with Music Generation Tipperary and Finding a Voice to bring the music of these fantastic female composers to young ears."

The free workshop will take place on Saturday 29th February 2020 from 2-4pm in the Tipperary Museum of Hidden History, Mick Delahunty Square, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Tickets must be booked in advance on Eventbrite under the heading Finding a Voice – Music Generation Workshop with the Irish Baroque Orchestra.

The Irish Baroque Orchestra will present the closing concert in Finding a Voice 2020 on Sunday 8th March 2020 in the Main Guard, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary at 7pm. Entitled La Donna Barocca, the concert will bring the music of seventeenth-century French and Italian composers back to vibrant life and will include the music of Hildegard of Bingen, Francesca Caccini, Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Antonia Bembo, as well as Ursuline nun Isabella Leonarda, whose 400th anniversary is being celebrated in 2020.

Finding a Voice runs from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th March 2020 and features performances by the Irish Baroque Orchestra, RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, CSM Jazz Big Band, pianist Isabelle O’Connell and many more. See www.findingavoice.ie for details.
