Just a mention of Rogers & Hammerstein, Lloyd Webber & Rice, Boublil & Schoenberg or Kander & Ebb conjures up the sights and sounds of the great musicals from the last 80 years. Who could forget Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer escaping Nazi clutches (The Sound of Music), the students falling at the barricades of revolutionary France (Les Miserables), the tragic re-telling of Romeo & Juliet (West Side Story) the mysterious life of the feline community (Cats), the sad tale of life at the carnival (Carousel) or indeed Liza Minnelli’s portrayal of a struggling singer in 1930s Berlin (Cabaret)? What is it about songs from the musicals that makes them so beloved to us?
Join Stella Bass and pianist David Wray, with guest singer Barbara Galvin, as they pay tribute to the best-loved Broadway shows from the 1940s to today, with a wonderful lunchtime celebration of the best of musical theatre. Early booking is advisable.

Stella Bass
Best known for her interpretations of The Great American Songbook, critically-acclaimed singer Stella returns to her early love of musicals for this, her by now twice-annual concert in NCH, where she has previously performed tributes to Ella Fitzgerald (a show which also headlined the Cork Jazz Festival), Weimar Berlin (which she performed for the German Ambassador to Ireland) and Stephen Sondheim. Stella’s last musical theatre outing was in the Irish premiere of 60s tribute “’Shout’ The Mod Musical” at the Tivoli Theatre.

Barbara Galvin
A leading lady in many musicals around Ireland throughout her career with an incredible flair for Rogers & Hammerstein, Barbara is an award-winning singer known for her seamless crossover vocal style; amongst her career highlights (to date!) is performing with Andrea Bocelli on The Late Late Show.

David Wray
David Wray works as a pianist, musical director and arranger in both Musical Theatre and Opera. He is Artistic & Musical Director for Opera In The Open, Musical Director for The Three Irish Tenors, a role he also took for the critically-acclaimed world premiere production of Angela’s Ashes. David is currently head of music for the Music Theatre programme at the American College, Dublin.
