Lunchtimes with ConTempo, October 3
Galway Music Residency’s Lunchtimes with ConTempo series continues in October with a musical masterpiece in the form of Schubert’s most challenging string quartet. The performance takes place on Tuesday 3 October at 1.10pm at St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church.
ConTempo Quartet will perform a single work – one of sheer technical complexity, requiring unerring skill from Galway’s resident ensemble. Schubert’s String Quartet in G major, a work written in the final years of the composer’s life, was considered far beyond its time and unlike anything that was being composed of the period. It dismisses all formal harmonic structures and is instead lyrical in style. The work feels mysterious asking questions rather than providing answers. It is a haunting and otherworldly, and in the hands of ConTempo Quartet utterly breath-taking.
Entry to the concert is free, all are welcome.
Booking is recommended through www.eventbrite.ie. Walk-ups also welcome.
Lunchtimes with ConTempo take place on the first Tuesday of the month. Galway Music Residency is proudly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, University of Galway (Education Partner) and Galway City and County Councils. For further information, visit www.galwaymusicresidency.ie
