Author and broadcaster Matthew Sweet joins the BBC Philharmonic in its MediaCityUK studios for a special edition of Sound of Cinema, BBC Radio 3’s weekly survey of the world of film music.

For this programme, he introduces a selection of music drawn from some of the greatest scores composed by one of the true masters of the genre - Elmer Bernstein.

Over a period of some sixty years, Bernstein penned some of Hollywood’s best loved and most iconic themes. Not only was he blessed with a wonderful musical imagination, and a great gift for melody, he was also a master at writing for the orchestra. In this celebratory afternoon concert, enjoy the drama, the heartache and the pizazz of classic Bernstein - including The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, To Kill A Mockingbird, An American Werewolf in London, and much, much more.

Sound of Cinema.
BBC Radio 3’s Sound of Cinema is broadcast on Saturday afternoons at 3pm and available to stream or download for 30 days after broadcast via BBC Sounds.
