Tullamore Club Sessions are piping up a storm.
The Club Sessions is thrilled to bring another great line up of very exciting musicians to the Rugby Club stage on Friday 24th June. Pádraic Keane on Uileann pipes along with Seán Hughes on fiddle and flute accompanied by Pádraig Ó Dubhghaill on guitar are sure to delight the audience.
Uilleann piper Pádraic Keane hails from Maree, Co. Galway and was born into a great musical family. He is a tutor at many music festivals in Ireland and abroad. In 2011 he was awarded TG4 Young Musician of the Year. He has toured America as a soloist with The Irish Chamber Orchestra and has collaborated with Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, The RTE Concert and Symphony Orchestras as well as various string quartets including Con Tempo . He has also toured Europe with Ragús and worked with Galway's Irish language theatre group - An Taibhdhearc. He has featured on a number of albums including "The Rolling Wave" - a CD of young pipers issued by Na Píobairí Uilleann, "Tunes in the Church" and "Rogha Raelach" issued by Raelach Records. He has also performed at The Masters of Tradition festival held in Bantry House and curated by Martin Hayes. Keane has something special, from the sharp definition of his fingering, to the inescapable momentum of his phrasing, and particularly, in his precise execution of slow airs.
Seán Hughes is a traditional fiddle and flute player from Tullamore Co Offaly. He grew up in a household where Irish music was played, heard and highly regarded. It was natural that he would then begin to play traditional music at a young age. He listened to, and learned from, many masters of the tradition over years of attending summer schools in Ireland. He takes stylistic inspiration from the great fiddle masters of Ireland's past and also from the sounds of the uilleann pipes.
He began to play with Eamhain Mhacha, a group of young like-minded musicians, and with them he appeared on national radio and television and performed at many prestigious music festivals and events in Ireland. After finishing his studies in Irish Culture at NUIG he spent some years travelling and working in many different fields. Seán lived in Dingle for a few years where he played music semi-professionally.
Pádraig O Dubhghaill was born and raised in Inverin, situated in the Connemara Gaeltacht. He started learning the tin-whistle at a young age under the tutelage of Mary Bergin before picking up the guitar at 17 years of age. After spending a couple of years playing a variety of music, Pádraig decided to apply his guitar-playing skills to Irish traditional music. While completing the MA in Irish Music Performance at the University of Limerick, Pádraig learnt from some of the best guitarists in the tradition including Steve Cooney, John Blake, Jim Murray and Tim Edey.
The Rugby Club, Tullamore. Doors open at 7:30pm. Concert starts at 8:00pm.
