Prom 26: Sibelius’s First Symphony
On the evening of 3 August 2023, the Proms 2023 will proceed with Prom 26, featuring Sibelius’s First Symphony, scheduled at the Royal Albert Hall. The concert, conducted by John Storgårds, will showcase the talents of the BBC Philharmonic.
The night’s programme commences with the world premiere of “Kafka’s Earplugs,” a composition by Irish composer Gerald Barry. The piece is a reflection on Franz Kafka’s unique sensory experience, where audience members will experience sounds as Kafka would have perceived them.
Following this premiere, the Canadian violinist James Ehnes will perform Walton’s Violin Concerto, a work known for its song, dance, and dramatic elements.
After an interval, the concert will culminate with a rendition of Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1 in E minor. This symphony is considered a crucial work in Sibelius’s journey as a composer, where he emerged from the shadow of Tchaikovsky and other Romantic composers.
Tickets for this event are available and range from £9 to £42, plus a booking fee.
