Music Network Announces Touring Award Recipients

The Dublin-based organisation Music Network has announced the results of the last ever round of its Performing and Touring Award – in future years, the award, which was started in 2006, will be subsumed by the Arts Council’s Touring and Dissemination of Work Scheme.

A total amount of €27,150 was divided between six separate projects — there were twenty-two applications seeking a total of over €126,000 in funding – the majority of applications were in the award’s contemporary/classical category.

The funded projects number a tour by Sabine Ducrot (flute) and Michael Joyce (piano) playing music by Henri Dutilleux, Francis Poulenc, César Franck and Richard Strauss; a five-date tour by the jazz group ReDeviDeR; a tour by the Maria McGarry (piano) in the winter; a performance in Dublin by Ailbhe McDonagh (cello) and Orla McDonagh (piano), with related outreach work; a tour by Maria Ryan (violin) and Ciara Moroney (piano) showcasing the Heineken Violin, recently awarded to Ryan (pictured); and a tour by the Herbert Cello Quartet featuring music by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms and Astor Piazolla as well as Sigur Rós, Muse and Metallica.

There were eleven applications to the classical/contemporary category, one in early music, three in the traditional/folk category, three jazz applications, two ‘crossover’ and one application in the big-band/show songs category.
