Mairtín Crawford Awards for Poetry and Short Story 2024

The Mairtín Crawford Awards for Poetry and Short Story 2024, presented by Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, are now open for submissions. These awards are designed to support emerging writers who are working towards their first full collection of poetry, short stories, or a novel. Eligible participants include both published and unpublished writers who have not yet published a full collection.

For the poetry award, entrants are invited to submit between 3-5 poems. For the short story award, a single short story of up to 2,500 words is required. Submissions can encompass any subject and be in any style or form, but must be in English.

The winner in each category will receive a £500 cash prize and a ‘Time to Write’ package, which includes a 3-night hotel stay in Belfast and 4 days of dedicated writing space at The Crescent. Two runners-up in each category will receive a £250 cash prize.

To submit, a £10 fee is required, followed by an email submission to BBFSubmissions [at] crescentarts.org (BBFS), quoting the order number. Submissions must be made by 12pm on Wednesday 10 April 2024.
