Glenarm Festival of Voice Competition
Northern Ireland Opera is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Vocal Competition at the 13th Glenarm Festival of Voice 2023. This prestigious event will take place from Thursday 24th August until Sunday 27th August 2023.
The competition is open to young singers between the ages of 18 and 28, who were born in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Applicants should be studying voice at the third level or privately and pursuing a career in opera.
To enter the competition, singers must submit two arias, one Baroque or Classical, and one of their own choice, in addition to a song composed or arranged by an Irish composer of the 20th or 21st century. The submissions should be accompanied by a short CV and a recording of their singing/playing, which should be exclusive to this competition and not previously used for any other applications or shared on social media platforms. Recordings must be from 2023 to provide an accurate representation of the applicant’s current abilities.
Five finalists will have the opportunity to work on their repertoire with opera professionals from Thursday 24th August and attend all festival events. The competition will culminate in the Competition Finale on Sunday 27th August, where finalists will perform for the prestigious Deborah Voigt Opera Prize, judged by a distinguished panel.
The winner of the Deborah Voigt Opera Prize will be awarded £2500, and an Audience Prize of £500 will also be presented.
The closing date for all applications is 6 p.m. on Friday 19th May 2023, and the finalists will be announced in June. To obtain further details or clarification, please contact Laura Salt at info [at] niopera.com.
