Culture Night @ CMC – Live performances by Ergodos

This Culture Night, CMC presents an evening of live performances curated by Dublin-based record label Ergodos

On Friday 23 September 2022 (Culture Night) CMC hosts 4 live performances curated by Ergodos, featuring works by composers from Ireland performed by Michelle O’Rourke (voice) and Máire Carroll (piano).

For this voice and piano recital, Garrett Sholdice and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly of Ergodos have curated a programme which spotlights Ergodos as a unique hub of creative contemporary music-making in Ireland. 

Programme

#1 Donnacha Dennehy – The White Birds (2’) 

A fragment arranged for voice, guitar, cello, sax by Garrett Sholdice was recorded on Ergodos Musicians “Songs” album that was released on Ergodos in 2014 and a voice / piano transcription of this Ergodos Musicians version made for Michelle O’Rourke and Michael McHale in 2015 will be performed by Michelle O’Rourke and Máire Carroll in CMC on Culture Night.

#2 Linda Buckley  – Drink all your passion (5’) 

From the song cycle “I have five things to say”, which was commissioned by Michelle O’Rourke for an Ergodos Linda Buckley portrait project in 2012, and arranged for piano by the composer in 2017. This will be performed by Michelle O’Rourke and Máire Carroll in CMC on Culture Night.

#3 Hildegard von Bingen – O Vis Eternitatis (3’)

Featured on “Long After the Music is Gone” by Seán Mac Erlaine released on Ergodos in 2012, this work for solo voice will be performed by Michelle O’Rourke in CMC on Culture Night, connecting to the role of historical / early music in Ergodos curations.

#4 Simon O’Connor – What is Living and What is Dead VI (5’) 

From “What is Living and What is Dead” by Simon O’Connor released on Ergodos in 2016 this work for solo piano, which is from a piano suite commissioned by Ergodos from Simon O’Connor in 2013, will be performed by Máire Carroll in CMC on Culture Night.

#5 Anna Murray – Water Iris (4’)

This song, which was commissioned by Michelle O’Rourke in 2017, will be performed by Michelle O’Rourke and Máire Carroll in CMC on Culture Night.

Tickets

No booking required. 

Performances take place at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Each performance lasts approx. 30 minutes.

Visitors who arrive ahead of these performance times are invited to enjoy a specially curated playlist by Ergodos in the CMC Courtyard.
