The RTÉ Concert Orchestra has revealed the programme for its upcoming Summer Lunchtime Concert, scheduled for Tuesday, 22nd August 2023, at 1:05 pm on the Main Stage. Tickets for the event are priced at €15.

The concert will be conducted by Gavin Maloney, featuring Anne-Marie O’Farrell on the harp. Additionally, the event will be presented by Liz Nolan from RTÉ lyric fm.

The musical lineup for the concert includes:

Glinka’s “Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture”
The Irish premiere of “In Light Anew”, a piece commissioned by RTÉ Lyric fm and composed by harpist Anne-Marie O’Farrell
Mendelssohn’s “Overture & Nocturne” from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz” from “The Sleeping Beauty”

It is noted that Glinka’s opera, “Ruslan and Ludmilla”, took inspiration from a fairytale-themed poem. In addition, the harp, significant in Irish folklore, has been associated with the ancient fairy race called Tuatha Dé Danann. The concert’s programme incorporates this theme by featuring a harp concerto by Anne-Marie O’Farrell. Pieces from Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty” further enhance the fairy and folklore theme of the event.
