Caroline Moreau Performs on the Jeanie Johnston

The French chanteuse Caroline Moreau will be finishing her Irish tour on Saturday, 2 March, in a more unusual venue. Having performed in Bray, Sligo and Blanchardstown, Moreau will appear with her band on the Jeanie Johnston tall ship, which is moored at Custom House Quay in Dublin.

Moreau whose band includes Ariel Hernandez (guitar), Dermot Dunne (accordion) and Malachy Robinson (double bass) will build the programme around a number of sea shanties in addition to French folk songs and songs from the French chanson tradition, including Jacques Brel’s ‘Amsterdam’ and Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Poinconneur des Lilas’. Songs from Moreau’s upcoming album, Amours toujours, etc. will feature in the performance.

The Jeanie Johnston is a thirteen year-old replica of a nineteenth-century barque. The original was used for a number of famine voyages from Ireland to the United States and Canada —famously, all of the ships passengers and crew survived these voyages. The replica Jeanie Johnston has made numerous voyages including participation in the 2005 Tall Ships Race, but she is not currently in seagoing condition.
